Outragious

I have been a member with these crooks for over 5 years. They never had to pay a dime. I hated this company from day 1, but my agent convinced me at the time. Now that I found a health care plan that better suits my budget and my needs (https://www.healthcare.gov/), I wanted to make sure BCBS does not renew in January, 2014, so I called. Result: I have been on the phone for 1.5 hours and have not been able to speak to a human.I gave up. If you already live in the U.S, you probably know this already. For anyone like me, who got here just a couple of years ago, arriving from Central Europe, all of this can be quite a shock.

BCBS 50/50 Plan a Rip Off

Make sure you read carefully the plan you decide on with BCBS. My husband and I chose his plan for insurance because the deductibles were lower and it included prescription coverage. What we didn't notice was the plan requires you to pay out of pocket, then file a claim yourself and reimburse you 50% of costs. 1) file claim yourself..really? 2) my rx is $7,000.00 discounted to $3,000 which leaves me with copay of $1500.00. The medication is for an autoimmune disorder, psoriatic arthritis and my doctor and I have been through all other meds available. THIS IS A RIP OFF. I have to wait now for my company's insurance in November (open enrollment) and file for government assistance. Meanwhile, people are complaining about our government offering assistance to people. This is a great example why those people are wrong.

Sounds like you're using an out of network pharmacy, or are outside the US. There's no reason you'd file a paper claim otherwise.

In that case the problem is that since you went out of network BCBS doesn't have a contract with the pharmacy and thus has no control over the price the pharmacy charges.

If you went in-network you wouldn't have to file a paper claim, and there wouldn't be any amount due other then your copay.

I wish you were right. I've contacted two reps to make sure I didn't get misinformation.

It is as it is. I live in Kansas. It is the case with every med I take. I've solved the problem by contacting Abvie in person.

They have allowed me to get it for free as it's medically necessary and I'm up for open enrollment with my company in Nov.

You bet I'm getting it. :)Thanks for the post.

Also, I work in medical and am a certified coder, former AR lead..I understand insurance.
